PROFESSIONAL SECTION FILM INDUSTRY OFFICE.

1.1 The professional section Film Industry Office is a four-day programme of presentations, panel discussions, roundtables and pitchings aimed at creating a communication platform for international and Ukrainian film industry professionals, developing Ukrainian film production and distribution, and promoting the development of international co-productions with the participation of producers from Ukraine. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related quarantine restrictions worldwide this year’s edition of the Film Industry Office will be held online for the first time from 29 September till 2 October , 2020.

1.2. Applications for participation in the Professional Section through the acquisition of the Film Industry accreditation badge are accepted from any legal entities or individuals who have reached the age of 18, without any restrictions with regard to citizenship and place of residence (location), who are working in the film industry, are authors of a film / film project that corresponds with the requirements of these Regulations, or, at least, have sufficient proven experience in cinema. The organizer has the right to refuse granting accreditation without explanation. Professional Section Film Industry Office accreditation fee: till 01.09 - UAH 500, 02.09 - 02.10 - UAH 700.

1.3. The professional section consists of competitive subsections Work in Progress and Pitching, EastSeries project, BookPitch, as well as non-competition events.

II. WORK IN PROGRESS 2020 REGULATIONS

This regulation is not a public promise of remuneration under the Civil Code of Ukraine

Producers and directors of feature film projects in the final stages of production or approaching a final cut (post-production) produced in Ukraine or co-produced with Ukraine and also projects from Eastern-European partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova)* planned to be distributed in 2019-2020 are invited to participate in the Work in progress at the Odesa International Film Festival.

*projects from Eastern-European partnership will be handpicked from the above mentioned countries and invited to be pitched by the organizer.

2.1. Criteria for the selection of the project: In order to be selected for the Work in Progress presentation at the Odesa International Film Festival, the project should meet the following criteria:

  • The film must be full-length, narrative or documentary;
  • The project must have completed material;
  • The project must have artistic value and a commercial potential;
  • The project must be produced in Ukraine or co-produced with Ukraine.
  • The project should be presented for the first time in Ukraine.

2.2 Documents requirements:

  • A completed registration form;
  • A trailer or fragments of the film with English subtitles (longer than 3 minutes)
  • Stills in print quality (minimum 3);
  • Director's photo (.jpeg);
  • Producer's photo (.jpeg);
  • A short biography and selected filmography of the director;
  • Completed applications for the Film Industry accreditation by each representative of the project for the Odesa International Film Festival.

The documents should be in Ukrainian and English.

2.3. Important dates:

We start accepting applications for the Work in Progress presentation 23 June , 2020. The film projects may be submitted till 1 August, 2020. The list of finalists will be announced on 17 August 2020. Work in Progress presentation at the Odesa International Film Festival will be held as a part of the Film Industry Office section from 29 September till 2 October 2, 2020.

2.4. Printed materials: Information about the creators and the projects presented at Work in Progress will be published in the Film Industry catalogue and online at oiff.com.ua.

2.5. Rules of presentation: The presentation of the project at the Odesa International Film Festival could be in the form of a video (up to 5 min.) as well as free-form verbal comments by the project's representatives (up to 5 min.). Any number of representatives of the project could participate in the presentation, but the presence of the producer or the director of the project is required. The additional video and audio materials could be included in the verbal presentation. Video, audio and other materials, for the presentation of the project, must be submitted to the festival service before 15 September, 2020. The organizing committee is willing to provide tech assistance for the presentations, provided all the materials are delivered on time. The organizing committee forms an international commission of experts that includes competent filmmakers, producers, investors, and festival selectors. After the presentation participants must answer the experts' questions. Additionally the audience of Work in Progress (film industry representatives and journalists) may ask questions as well. The total duration of the presentation of each project is limited to 10 minutes.

2.6. Award:

the Prize of 60 000 UAH provided by the Ukraine TV channel. the Prize of 150 000 UAH provided by the Ukrainian Institute*.

*Beneficiaries of the proMOTION programme of the Ukrainian Institute that supports international film promotion are not eligible for the the Ukrainian Institute's award within the Work in Progress section at the OIFF.

2.7. By submitting their project for Work in Progress at Odesa International Film Festival, one agrees and accepts the terms and conditions described in each of the paragraphs of these regulations.

III. PITCHING REGULATIONS 2020

This regulation is not a public promise of remuneration under the Civil Code of Ukraine

Producers and directors of feature film projects produced or co-produced with Ukraine and also projects from Eastern-European partnership (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia and Moldova)** in the pre-production stage are invited to participate in Pitching at the Odesa International Film Festival.

**projects from Eastern-European partnership will be handpicked from mentioned above countries and invited to be pitched by the organizer.

3.1. Criteria for the selection of the project: In order to be selected during the Pitching session at the Odesa International Film Festival, the project should meet the following criteria:

  • The film must be feature narrative (longer than 60 minutes) and feature documentary (longer than 60 minutes);
  • The first draft of the script must be completed;
  • The project must have a producer and a director on board;
  • The project must be produced in Ukraine or in co-production with Ukraine;
  • The project must have at least 30% of confirmed funding.

The project should be presented for the first time in Ukraine.

3.2. Requirements for the documents:

  • Completed application form;
  • Script, synopsis (maximum 10 pages) and treatment of the project;
  • Director's Vision (1 page);
  • Budget and Financial Plan;
  • Director's Photo (.jpeg)
  • Producer's photo (.jpeg)
  • A short biography and selected filmography of the director
  • The list of the documents to be additionally provided will be sent to the Finalists participating in the Pitching session.

3.3. Important dates: Call for entries 23 June, 2020. The application deadline is 1 August, 2020. Finalists participating in the Pitching session will be announced on 1 September, 2020. The Pitching session at the Odesa International Film Festival will be held as a part of the Film Industry Office section from 29 September till October, 2020.

3.4. Printed materials: Information about the creators and the projects presented at the Pitching will be published in the Film Industry catalogue and online on oiff.com.ua.

3.5. Rules of the presentation: Presentation of the project at the Odesa International Film Festival can be held in any form and should last no more than 5 minutes. Any number of representatives of the project could participate in the presentation, but the presence of the producer or the director of the project is required. The presentation could include video and/or audio fragments. Video and audio materials, included in the presentation of the project, must be submitted to the festival service before 15 September, 2020. The organizing committee is willing to provide tech assistance for the presentations, provided all the materials are delivered on time. The organizing committee forms an international commission of experts that includes competent filmmakers, producers, investors, and festival selectors. After the presentation participants must answer the experts’ questions. Additionally, the audience of Work in Progress (film industry representatives and journalists) may ask questions as well. The total duration of the presentation of each project is limited to 10 minutes.

3.6. The winners: The Pitching Jury determines the winner. The winning project gets the Prize of UAH 60 000 from Odesa International Film Festival. The sum of financial reward is paid in a 3-month period after the winners are publicly announced. According to Ukrainian legislation, the income tax is to be detracted from the payment sum. The winner must include in the credits of their future film the information that this project took part in Pitching at OIFF and became the winner. An additional prize - UAH 60 000 provided by the Ukraine TV channel. The awarding ceremony for the best project will be held on 2 October, 2020.

3.7. By submitting the project for Pitching at Odesa International Film Festival one agrees and accepts the terms and conditions described in each of the paragraphs of these regulations.

IV. ODESA IFF EASTSERIES PROJECTS REGULATIONS 2020

4.1. The organizer Odesa IFF EastSeries Projectss is organized by the Odesa International Film Festival, supported by Star Media, the biggest film company in Ukraine, and by ScripTeast, the European master training programme for the best Eastern European Scriptwriters organized by the Independent Film Foundation

4.2. Description Odesa IFF EastSeries Projects selects from 4 up to 6 best drama series projects with international potential (with or without a producer) that have been created by the best writers of Eastern and Central European origin, and/or owned by the production companies registered in one of Eastern and Central European countries, to be presented in public to potentially interested TV broadcasters, platform operators, distributors, co-producers.

4.3. General programme schedule Call for entries 23 June , 2020. Submissions Deadline is 1 August, 2020. Finalists participating in the Pitching session will be announced on 1 September, 2020. The pitching session of the EastSeries projects will be held as a part of the Film Industry Office section from 29 September till 2 October, 2020.

4.4. Selection committee The selection is made by the Committee appointed jointly by the Odesa International Film Festival, StarMedia and ScripTeast.

4.5. Language The working language of Odesa IFF EastSeries Projects' pitching is English.

4.6. Selection progress

  • from 4 to 6 original drama series projects are selected for the pitching. The selection is based on three factors:
  • the originality of drama series projects
  • the international potential of the project;
  • the writer(s)’s and/or showrunner(s)’s track records.

The project should be presented for the first time in Ukraine.

Selection is made entirely at the discretion of the Organizer. The Organizer reserves the right not to explain or communicate the reasons why a project has not been selected. Shortlisted applicants are informed at the end of June. The final selection is announced two weeks before the pitching at the latest.

4.7. Application process There is no application fee. The rights owner must be an individual and/or entity from Central and Eastern European countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Ukraine. Applicants must provide credits for at least one theatrical feature film, or one television feature film or television series that had already been produced, or must have extensive experience as writers, journalists or directors. Drama series projects must be an original work or an adaptation. RIGHTS OWNER MUST CONFIRM THE PROJECT’S SUBMISSION AND SIGN THE APPLICATION FORM BY 6 August , 2020, AT THE LATEST.

4.8. Application package The digital application package must be in English and should contain:

  • Pitch (max 600 characters)
  • Log line (max 500 characters)
  • Writer’s note (max 1 200 characters)
  • Outline of the series and characters description (max 15 000 symbols)
  • Script of the pilot episode (if any)
  • Presentation file, if any (with pictures, moodboard, etc.)
  • Writer’s photo (.jpeg)
  • Showrunner's photo (.jpeg)
  • Producer's photo (.jpeg)
  • A short biography and selected filmography of the director, writer, producer
  • Copy of a valid registration document (with names of statutory representative) of the rights owner (if not the writer)
  • Photos of representatives going to the Odesa IFF EastSeries Projects (writer's, producer's, showrunner's)
  • Links to the previous work(s) of the writer(s) and producer (if any)

4.9. Pitching Jury The selected projects are invited to public pitching, 10 minutes for each of the projects. The pitching is evaluated in public by the Jury appointed jointly by the Odesa International Film Festival, Star Media and ScripTeast.

V. BOOK PITCH 2020 REGULATIONS

This regulation is not a public promise of remuneration under the Civil Code of Ukraine

The Odesa International Film Festival and the X International Book Arsenal Festival launched a joint project Book Pitch. The aim of the project is to find contemporary Ukrainian books that have the potential for film adaptation. Applications for Book Pitch were accepted at the OIFF website till 1 May . The first stage of Book Pitch was meant to take place during the X Book Arsenal ( 20-24 May) and the final one is to be held at the Film Industry Office of the Odesa International Film Festival (29 September,- 2 October). However, due to the quarantine, X International Book Arsenal Festival has been postponed till the end of August 2020.

5.1. Criteria for the selection of the project: Competition is open for literary works published in 2018-2020 with a circulation of at least 1000 copies that have the potential for film adaptation. Literary works must have positive critical reviews. Preference will be given to works presented at the international festivals and book fairs and recognized with awards. The applicant guarantees to hold all the necessary adaptation rights. Applications can be submitted by authors, publishers and literary agents. One applicant can submit no more than 5 works.

5.2. The application deadline is 1 May, 2020. Finalists participating in the Pitching session will be announced at the end of August, 2020. The pitching session of the Book Pitch projects will be held as a part of the Film Industry Office section from 29 September till 2 October, 2020.

VI.Non-competition events

Specialized educational projects for film professionals, panel discussions, round tables, master classes, etc., are held annually within the framework of the non-competition events of the Professional Section.
