The epic fantasy The Green Knight will be the opening film of the Gala Premiere out-of-competition program of the 12th Odesa International Film Festival.
The Green Knight film, directed by David Lowery and A24 Studio is based on the legendary poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The poem, whose author is still unknown, remains one of the most prominent works of English literature, which inspired William Shakespeare and J. R. R. Tolkien.
The epic fantasy adventure film The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain, the reckless and capricious nephew of King Arthur, who defiantly confronts the Green Knight, a mysterious emerald giant who tests people for fortitude. Gawain will meet ghosts, giants, thieves and seductive intriguers during his journey, which will eventually determine his fate and show what Gawain is really worth in the minds of the family and the kingdom in the face of the enemy.
The leading roles in the film were performed by the nominee for the Oscar award and BAFTA winner Dev Patel and Oscar laureate Alicia Vikander.
David Lowery is an American Director, Screenwriter, Editor and Producer. He was born in 1980 in Milwaukee (USA). His film Ain't Them Bodies Saints with Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck was nominated by jury for the Sundance Film Festival Grand Prix in 2013 and participated in the International Critics' Week section at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2017, his film A Ghost Story was represented in the Best of Next! competition at Sundance Film Festival. As of 2021, his directorial filmography includes six feature films, as well as several short films and TV episodes.
Viewers of the 12th OIFF will be the first to see The Green Knight film, which will be shown on August 14. And the film distribution in Ukraine will take place on August 26, 2021, thanks to Volga Ukraine distribution company.
