Closing Ceremony and Winners of OIFF-2016
On 23 July, the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theater hosted the closing ceremony of the 7th Odessa International Film Festival. The Grand Prix, based on audience vote, went to the British film ‘Burn, Burn, Burn’ by Chanya Button. Also, the international jury, headed by Christopher Hampton, named the winners in the categories Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor. Director Taras Tkachenko was awarded the Golden Duke for his film ‘The Nest of the Turtledove’ in the category Best Ukrainian Feature Film.
Digital Media Day: where cinema meets innovation
The 7th Odessa Film Festival held its second Digital Media Day, an event that aims to introduce new technologies and trends, discuss their impact and interaction in the context of cinema. This year there were presentations by 6 speakers who presented various innovative platforms.
Day 8 of OIFF-2016: at the finish line
On the penultimate day of the 7th OIFF there was a screening of the last participant of the International competition programme ‘Very Big Shot’, the Cannes winner ‘I, Daniel Blake’, and the new film of the cult South Korean director Park Chan-wook ‘The Handmaiden’, documentary ‘In California’ and the hit of national cinema ‘Ukrainian Sheriffs’, as well as a collection of stories ‘Human’ by world-famous Yann Arthus-Bertrand. In addition, there were some special events of OIFF – Digital Media Day and OIFF Business Club, and the awards ceremony for the first laureates of the festival.
The First Winners of the National Competition, Pitching and Work In Progress
The first prizes of OIFF were given out at a ceremony on 22 July at the Festival Palace. The jury of the National competition programme announced the winners in the categories ‘Best Ukrainian Short Film’ and ‘Best Actor’. In addition, the FIPRESCI jury announced their prize-winners among the Ukrainian films, and prizes were awarded for the best projects at Pitching and Work in Progress.
The final day of Film Industry Office was marked by a seminar dedicated to the countries of ‘New Europe’ with the MEDIA program by Creative Europe and a series of presentations of projects at the stage of production ‘Work in Progress’.
Day 7 of OIFF-2016: The last screening of the National Competition Programme, workshops by Vitaly Mansky and Christopher Hampton
On this day, there were screenings of participants of the International competition programme: a Georgian film ‘The House of Others’, the Romanian film ‘Illegitimate’ and participant of the European documentary competition ‘My Friend Boris Nemtsov’. Igor Minaev presented his work ‘Blue Dress’.
